Associate Professor Kofi Asante-Kyei is an Associate Professor at the Department of Ceramic Technology and current Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology (FAAT), Takoradi Technical University.

Prof Asante-Kyei’s research interests include: ceramic raw materials, glaze formulations and applications, ceramic studio practice, and recycling of plastic wastes as non-conventional ceramic material into artifacts. He comes from Atibie-Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He attended Ahmaddiyah Primary School, Nkawkaw from 1978 to 1981 and continued from United Primary and Middle Schools in Kokofu-Ashanti from 1981 to 1987. He passed the Common Entrance Examination in 1987 and gained admission into Opoku Ware School and Technology Secondary School now KNUST Secondary School both in Kumasi for his Ordinary and Advance Levels in 1992 and 1994 respectively. He attained his B.A Industrial Art (Ceramics option) in 2001 and M.A (Art Education) in 2006, all from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. In 2017, he successfully completed his PhD in Arts and Culture at the University of Education, Winneba.

In September, 2008, Prof Asante-Kyei was employed as a Lecturer at the Department of Ceramics at then Takoradi Polytechnic. He became the HoD of the Ceramic Department from 2010 to 2012. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2013 and again became the HoD of the Ceramic Department from 2014 to 2015. Prof Asante-Kyei was appointed as the Dean of the then School of Applied Arts (SAA) from 2015 to 2016.

When the Polytechnic was converted into Technical University in 2016, he became the first Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology from 2016 to 2017. Prof. Asante-Kyei later became the Head, Department of Ceramic Technology from 2017 to 2019. He was also appointed as the Dean, Centre for Languages and Liberal Studies from 2019 to 2020 and afterwards became the Hall Warden, Ahanta Hall from 2020 to 2021.

Additionally, he has served on several boards and committees as either a member or the chairman in Takoradi Technical University. Prof. Asante-Kyei has authored one book and published a good number of articles in national and international journals. He has also attended lots of conferences both locally and internationally. He serves as a reviewer in ceramic and art related journals, and also as an external assessor for some Ghanaian Public Universities and educational institutions.

In the year 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
